Prayer

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”—Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)

Prayer is a privilege. It isn’t something that I have to do. It is something that I get to do. When prayer is something to check off your “to do” list, you aren’t getting the benefits of experiencing the presence of God. Of course, some prayer rather than none is better than not doing it at all, but God knows if your heart isn’t in it.

Are you in a season of your life where you must can’t seem to get a 10 minute break to spend some alone time with God? I get it. I was a single mom for 5 years. I know what it is like to want to go to bed after two very young children have gone to sleep for the night. Even if all I could muster was 10 minutes with God before I fell asleep, I know it was better than no prayer time.

When you are young mom with young children, prayer time before you wake up or after your children go to bed may not be the best time. I found that if I got to after school pick-up early, I could do my Bible Study and quiet time during that time too. Rather than scroll through social media during that 15-20 minutes, use this opportunity to read a devotion instead. First 5 and and In Touch Ministries are two free apps I that I have but there are many, many, others.

With all of the hustle and bustle this time of the year, it is easy to let this area in your life slide. What are some changes you can put into action this week so that God is able to work within you so that He can accomplish more than you might ask or imagine? God wants to bless us, but first we need to make Him a priority in our day.

Many of us will either be preparing a Thanksgiving feast, going to someone’s house to enjoy one or maybe even going to a restaurant. Wherever you may find yourself this Thursday, let’s not forget to give our Lord and Savior our praises and thanksgivings. I know praying out loud can be uncomfortable, but God doesn’t want perfection, He just wants to hear our voices giving Him thanks.

Lord, Help me to not lose sight with what is truly important in life. I know that there is no excuse for neglecting my prayer time with You. I ask that you help me to carve out time in my busy schedule to make this a priority. I praise You that even when I am not faithful You always are. I thank You that don’t ever leave me or forsake me. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.

How have you been able to implement this month’s memory verse,“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”—Colossians 4:2, during your quiet time with the Lord this week? I wrote this verse at the top of my morning prayers and say, “Lord, please give me an alert mind and thankful heart as I pray this morning.”
