“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”—Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Last week, Nicole Allen, shared how being a part of a knitting community has provided her with love, prayers, support and friendships that have sustained her over the years. I can’t stress how important it is to have relationships that matter in your life. 

Even though you may consider your spouse or significant other as your best friend, he can’t be your only source for a meaningful relationship. I love my husband, but there are just some things a man can not relate to with me. This is where close friendships can fill that void. 

If I didn’t have any other relationships that matter in my life outside of my marriage, I would feel lonely and isolated. I am not talking about having Facebook friends that don’t get to see all of the “yuck” in my life. What I am addressing here is having women in my life who know the Lord, lovingly hold me accountable and will speak the truth to me. These are people who aren’t afraid to let you know when you are going in the wrong direction.

I am blessed to have these types of relationships both within my knitting group and outside of it. However, I can say the bond that I have created meetly weekly with other women who love the Lord and knitting has created something special among us. With my knitting ladies, over the years, we have faithfully walked alongside each other during life’s ups and downs.

If you don’t have some type of small group that you are a part of, why not make it a goal of yours for 2019? Whether is is being part of a weekly exercise class, Bible study, a monthly book club or part of some type of crafting group, look for something that interests you. You may have to be the one to start something, but as scripture states, “two are better off than one.” Even if you begin with only 2-3 people, that is a start. God did not create us to go through life alone.

Dear Lord, 

Thank You for putting Godly women in my life where I can seek counsel and who will hold me accountable for my actions. I thank You that You have knit us together….dropped stitches and all. I pray for those that don’t have a core group of women in their lives to be led to others in which they can go through life together. I ask these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
