Comfortable

“Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.”—1 Chronicles 16:11 (NLT)

In my book club, there are a few ladies that don’t read their books on an electronic device because they like having a physical book with pages to turn. I get it. While I do like the convenience of reading books on my Kindle or IPad, sometimes I need a real book with pages to keep track of what is going on in the story.

I shared how I had become so dependent on my electronic version of the Bible that when I went back to my hard copy one that I had to relearn how to flip through the pages to find where everything was. As I was spending my quiet time with my Bible this week, I too, realized how much I enjoyed the feel of the pages and hearing the sounds of me flipping them back and forth.

I know we are called to step outside of our comfort zone to grow God’s Kingdom, but I think sometimes it s okay to go back to what is comfortable if it will draw you closer to God. In my case, it was going back to my old Bible that has given me so much comfort over the years rather than depending on my electronic version of it.

When I am feeling stress or anxiety, I also find myself putting aside more complicated knitting patterns. I will start one that is either knit in the round or garter stitch. I consider these my comfort stitches. These are the projects that give me peace because I don’t have to think when I am doing it. If there is something heavy on my heart, I use this time to pray for whatever or whoever it is that needs prayers.

There are times when going back to what you are used to is okay as long as you are still using your gifts to make a difference. God doesn’t want our lives to become so mundane that what we are doing doesn’t seem to matter. The comfortable thing to do when giving away a Threads with Red gift that you have knit or crochet, is to give the gift to the person that made a difference in your day without saying much. It is okay to do that, but the more you give these gifts the bolder you will get with what you say.

If  you haven’t made a gift to give away yet, try doing it the way that is easiest for you first. As you pray and continue to do this, God will give you the courage to say more to the recipient when you share what you made with them.

Since Tuesday is May 1st it is time for a new memory verse. I hope that “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”—Psalm 118:24 has been imprinted on your heart.  If you are joining me this month our new verse is, “Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.”—1 Chronicles 16:11 (NLT)

Dear Lord,

Help me to live out 1 Chronicles 16:11.  I search You for my strength and seek You as I knit or crochet gifts this month. If it is Your will for me to bless someone with what I make, I ask that You give me the words and courage to do this. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen!

If you are making any gifts to give away this month, please make sure you tweet @KnitPrayShare or share your projects on the Knit Pray Share Facebook page or Instagram using the hashtags #ThreadsWithRed #KnitPrayShare.
