Is God Singing To You?

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”—Psalm 19:1 (ESV)

Do you appreciate your surroundings? I know some times that I can take mine for granted, but I am really working on taking in the beauty that each day has to offer. One of God’s most beautiful  creations is the nature that encompasses us daily.

This week during my morning quiet time, as I sat in my chair in my backyard reading Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young, she wrote about seeing all of the blessings that are revealed in God’s presence such as sunshine, flowers, birds, friendships….I was overwhelmed because as I looked out in my yard, I couldn’t help but notice the green grass, blue skies, flowers in bloom and the birds chirping.

I started to write some notes in my journal about some knitting patterns that I was working on for a devotion book that I am writing. As I was doing this, I hear, “Coo, Coo, Coo.” I look up and sitting on the ceiling fan is a Mourning Dove. Of course, I don’t have my iPad or phone outside to take a picture, so I risked getting up, opening the door to go in and out so that I could try and take a photo. The bird didn’t move. It was still out there singing to me. I was able to take the above picture. Thankfully, my husband wasn’t home because his response would have been to turn on the fan so the birds didn't make a nest!

The bird sang to me for a good 10 minutes. Tears fill my eyes as I write this now because I felt as if God sent that bird to sing to me to give me peace. Many might have seen this as a disruption, but I chose to view it as a precious gift from my Lord and Savior letting me know that He hears my prayers and is with me all of the time. I had and still have peace that everything for my book is going to fall in place.

Later that day, as I was working on a new knitting pattern and listening to some praise and worship music, I heard a song that I didn’t know. It was by New Song called, “Red Letter Day.” As I was listening to the song, I realized that I had a “Red Letter Day.” If you get a chance, click on the link to listen to the words of the song.

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dear Lord,

Help me to embrace and enjoy the beauty that surrounds me every moment. Let each day be a “Red Letter Day” for me. Open my eyes and ears to how You speak to me throughout the day. Whether it is through a kind word, something I read or even a bird singing to give me comfort. If it is Your will for me to share one of my hand made gifts, lead me to someone that needs to be reminded that You hear their prayers. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Have you written down this month’s memory verse somewhere where you can see it every day? “Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.”—1 Chronicles 16:11 (NLT)
