Are You Resting?

“Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”—Genesis 2:3

Don’t you think if God rested on the seventh day, that He wants us to get some rest too? I know it is especially hard to still our minds when we have a phone, tablet or computer right at our finge tips. It is no wonder that depression and anxiety are at an all time high. We have the #FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) infiltrating our society due to all of the misrepresentation that is seen all over the internet, social media, TV, movies….Not only is this destroying our society but we are now seeing this at a younger and younger age.

I have talked about how meditating on God’s Word and prayer yoga have really helped me to find rest in my day/week. In fact, before I started to work on transitioning my email campaigns through a service now offered through my website server, I felt as if God tell me that I needed to take a rest. I turned on some Christian music, closed my eyes and soaked in the words of the music. When I was done, I felt recharged enough to tackle a task that I had been putting off for weeks.

We have to get into the habit to be okay with idle time. It is okay to sit in silence and not pick up your phone to scroll through social media, email, or text messages. Some times our minds just need some rest from the pressures and distractions of this fast paced world that we live in. I know that I can’t be effective if I am run down and tired all of the time.

How do you recharge your weary soul and mind? Besides having my morning quiet time, with my coffee and a devotion book, exercise and knitting are other ways for me to decompress. Regular exercise releases endorphins that help my overall well being. My knitting is what helps me to refocus when I start to have anxious thoughts, especially when I am reminded to say a prayer for who will be receiving what I am making.

You have to nurture yourself….be filled up. Refresh your soul. You can’t pour into others if you don’t fill yourself up.  Some times I just needs to be alone to pray, think and unwind. How do you spiritually replenish yourself? Please feel free to comment on what works for you.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for putting activities in my life that declutter my mind, calm my anxious heart and refocus my thoughts on You. In Matthew 11:28 You tell me  that when I am weary and burdened, if I come to You, You will give me rest. Help me to find that rest in You this week. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen

November Memory Verse

“Remind me each morning of your constant love, for I put my trust in you. My prayers go up to you; show me the way I should go.”—Psalm 143:8 (GNT)
