Living Out Philippians 4:6

“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.”—Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

As much as I write about struggling with worry, you would think I would have memorized Philippians 4:6 by now! Because I know this is a verse that needs to be imprinted on my heart, I am going to break it up into 2 months to memorize it.

Worry and fear go hand-in-hand with negative thinking. Living in the “what-ifs” of what “could” happen isn’t trusting God. If I am not careful my thoughts can easily poison my outlook in life. Because I have the Holy Spirit as my Guide, I DO have the ability to choose my thoughts. I don’t have to let Satan sneak in to steal my joy. Zach Williams song, Old Church Choir is a good song to remind me of this😊.

Circumstances don’t last forever, so unless I don’t change my thinking, I will get stuck in a pessimistic outlook. It is a matter of me reminding myself on a daily basis, that I am a child of God whose loving Father protects, loves and forgives me despite my wrong thoughts and behaviors.

We live in a fallen world where bad things do happen, so it isn’t always easy to find the positive in a not so good situation. When you wander from God’s truth is when you give into worry but when you trust in God, you have peace.

As your mind races and your thoughts stray it’s easy to get wrapped up in the stress of life. Anticipation of possible future problems is only going to produce a state of anxiousness. When my heart bends toward worry, I have to remind myself that I am not trusting God and His perfect plan.

Stepping back, taking a deep breath and refocusing my thoughts on God’s Word and promises is the only thing that helps me put things back into perspective. Seeking God and His Truth is what fills my mind and heart so that I am brought back to a peaceful mindset. If you feel your thoughts drifting to that place of unrest, I encourage you to do the same.

Dear Lord,

Help me to monitor my anxious and fearful thoughts. I praise You that you are able to release me from whatever is preoccupying my mind. Renew a right spirit within me. I ask that You redirect my attention from my problem and bring me back to Your presence. Thank You that even though my heart may wander and my mind might race, that Your love for me never waivers. It is in the name of Jesus I pray these things. Amen.

May Memory Verse:
