Sowing and Reaping

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”—2 Corinthians 9:6-7

I write a lot about how being an encourager is a gift that really every person possesses. It is whether or not we choose to tap into it or not. It isn’t that hard to make eye contact with a clerk, smile and thank them. I struggled with writing this post because the past few gifts I have given away, I realized that while all those things are a start, I should also be more intentional about learning those people’s names as well.

Because of the spring season, I have been making the above Marina Cowl using Caron x Pantone yarn.  I like it because it is soft, light and comes with a variety of colors. Last week I had 2 to give away. I felt God impress on my heart to give them to two of the clerks at the post office. I knew when I got there and both were working at the same counter and there was only one customer in line, that they were definitely supposed to be the recipients of them.

I am embarrassed that it took me so long to recognize someone that has been serving me for over 11 years. However, God convicted me that I can’t write about being bold in my faith if I am not transparent with my shortcomings too. ELEVEN YEARS! This one sweet clerk, has been working behind that counter serving me and that is how long it took for me to let her now I appreciated her kindness. She always has a smile and has exuded nothing but kindness toward me…..and I never took the time to ever learn her name! Honestly, it makes me tear up when I write this. How could I be so busy, that I never took the time to look at her name tag?

How many of you, like me, take for granted the people that serve us on a regular basis? As you read this today did God bring someone to your mind that you can bless with an encouraging word? You don’t have to give away a handmade gift as I do. Call them by name and let them know you appreciate the job they are doing. That in itself is a gift….that you took the time to look at their name tag and thank them.

God’s Word is true. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 isn’t in the Bible because it sounds good. It is life. We reap what we sow, so why not start planting some seeds of encouragement into the lives around you? When you do this, you too will reap the same thing in your own life. Let God use you to speak words of blessing into someone’s life this week.

As a side note, one of the women  at the post office found my Facebook Page and thanked me for her gift. I have been giving away these gifts since September 2017. She is the first person to acknowledge one of my gifts. Her words to me were, “God Bless.”

Thank You, Jesus, for giving me just what I needed to be encouraged to keep doing what I am doing for You. When I sow seeds of encouragement, You will bring me the same when I need it the most. I ask for You to continue to use me where You have placed me so that I can make a difference in Your Kingdom. Open my eyes to those around me that need to know that they matter. Give me the words to speak positivity into someone’s life this week. It is in the name of Jesus I pray these things. Amen.
