Lifetime Learning

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”—2 Timothy 3:16-17

Doing The Bile Recap one year Bible reading plan came out of my desire to grow deeper in God’s Word to help increase my faith walk. Really, any time I do a Bible Study it is for the same reason. As long as I am alive, I want to be learning more about God. No one can take spending time with God away from me. My relationship with Jesus is just that….it is mine.

For 2020 my word for the year was, deeper. God knew how much I was going to need to be in His Word to deal with what was happening in our world. It kept me from being gripped with fear and anxiety. By December 31st, I will have read all 66 books of the Bible in chronological order. This was my first time to do it. I plan on doing it again in 2021. I am not sure if I will repeat the same one or do another. I am praying about it, so if anyone has one to recommend please feel free to share it with me. 😊

As I learn and grow in my faith, I am able to share that with others. As my faith deepens, what I learn flows out of me and into the lives of others. The only way for me to grow in my relationship with Jesus is to learn more about His Word. The more I study scripture, the easier it is for me to apply it to my everyday life.

Reading God’s Word each day has a way of reshaping, our hearts, thoughts and lives. It is too easy to stray from God when I am not actively spending time in scripture. Immersing myself in God’s teachings helps keep me humble. It reminds me of who is in control and it isn’t me.

Deeper was the exact word I needed to live out for 2020. I am still praying about my word/phrase for 2021. A few have been laid on my heart and I have no doubt God will open my eyes by January 1st where I need the most growth. 2020 has been a year for me to draw closer to God by digging into scripture. It revealed to me how much I needed to incorporate some kind of daily Bible reading plan into my life.

How has God spoken to you this year? Even though it might be uncomfortable and not always convenient, are you willing to step out in faith for 2021 and let God grow your walk with Him? I’m not going to lie, keeping up with the daily reading plan was not easy. There were days I fell behind. Life gets busy but spending time with God and being in His Word was what has kept me grounded and calmed my anxious soul.

Did you have a word or phrase you tried to live out for 2020? If not, why not try it for this next year? DaySpring has a Find Your 2021 Word of the Year that might speak to you.

Dear Lord,

Open my eyes to what You are wanting to teach me this week. Reinforce and remind me what I have learned through scripture. I ask for wisdom and insight to strengthen my knowledge of who You are as I share it with others. Reveal to me where I need to grow in my faith walk and draw closer to you in 2021. I praise You that Your Word breathes life into me to equip me to do good works in Your name. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen

December Memory Verse

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”—Psalm 19:14 (NLT)
