Abundant Blessings
“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”—2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)
Because someone took the time to teach me how to knit, I like to do the same. Every time I start a new knitting group, I don’t make it a requirement that you need to know how to knit. If I know ahead of time, I will make sure I have the supplies to teach those that want to learn.
This past fall, I shared that I had joined another church. Visiting a new church after attending the same one for 12 years was scary. We were invited to attend a service at another church who had opened their doors. I never thought that would lead to us joining it. I felt as if I was betraying the other church. I would go with my husband to the new church and go home and watch the other church online. I knew I needed to be all in with one of the churches.
While I miss seeing people from the other church, I look at all of the blessings I would have missed out on had I let my fear and anxiety keep me from visiting a different church during the pandemic. Of course, the baby hat ministry has been one of the biggest blessings. When I spoke with someone about wanting to start a knitting group, it turns out the church had been wanting to branch out with some special interest small groups such as this.
Because of the holidays, I waited until January to get it going. We meet at a local coffee shop. It is an open group which means you do not need to be a member of the church to be a part of it. In fact, being a Christian isn’t a requirement either. The only request I have is for each person to commit to making 4 hats a month.
My goal was to be able to provide 200 hats a month to a local pregnancy crisis center. Not only have we been able to meet that goal, but we were able to bless another pregnancy center as well as a local hospital too! I also have two out-of-state ladies, one from Ohio and the other from Pennsylvania who have been contributing to this ministry. I stepped out in faith believing God would provide the manpower to do this and He has!
A few weeks ago, as I looked around the table where 9 of us were sitting and knitting, I realized that over half of the group were women who were widowed. 25 years ago, I was a part of a widow ministry and now in a way I am a part of one again. This knitting group is providing an outlet for some widowed women to have a hobby to fill some of their idle time. One sweet woman who wants to learn to knit has put that on the back burner so she can cut tags and attaches them to the hats. I would have taken that on myself, so I am thankful she gives of her time every week to help with that tedious task.
While the core group is mostly church members, this is the perfect opportunity for us to open our arms to all who want to join us. We plant seeds of love and hope to those that may join us that don’t know Jesus. This is how we can be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Despite my apprehension of making the change in churches, God has given me confirmation along the way, that this is where I belong. From my women’s Bible study, that lay hands and pray over the hats before they are delivered to each and every woman and organization that have been put in my path because I chose to not let fear and doubt keep me from doing something I felt God call me to do 3 years ago. This is a true example of 2 Corinthians 9:8. Not only did God provide the needed hats but there was plenty left over to share with others.
Dear Lord,
Empower me to press on to fulfill Your will for me. Forgive me when I am tempted to doubt Your promises in Your Word. I now you are faithful to keep Your promises. Keep my eyes open to where you are working in my life. Help me to focus on the new path ahead of me for where You have already paved the way for me to walk. I thank You for providing above and beyond what any of us can ever imagine. You are all powerful and nothing is too hard for You. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
