Applying God's Word to Your Life

“Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.”—Psalm 119:133

God’s Word is God’s will for me. Psalm 119:133 is not only a great memory verse for me, but one I plan on implementing before I get out of the bed each morning. I automatically start out my morning with Psalm 118:24, This is the day that the LORD has made; let me rejoice and be glad in it but how might my day change when I add, Direct my footsteps according to Your word and let no sin rule over me?

Did you know that we have something at our fingertips that can help us throughout our day? It is called, God’s Word. Whether it is your physical Bible or some kind of Bible app, we have instant access to it. In it are the tools to get us through our day. 

Below are some verses you might got to if struggling in certain areas of your life:

Tired? “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”—Jeremiah 31:25 (NIV)

Sad? “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”—1 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

Angry? “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.”—James 1:19-20 (NLT)

Anxious? “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”—1 Peter 5:7

Fearful? “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.—John 14:27 (NIV)

Lonely? “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”—Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

Weak? “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”--Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

Confused? “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.”--1 Corinthians 14:33a (ESV)

Uncertain? “For we live by faith, not by sight.”--2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

 Insecure? “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”—1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT)

Concerned about what others think? Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the LORD means safety.”--Proverbs 29:25 (NLT)

Negative thinking? “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.—Philippians 4:8 (NIV)

Unforgiveness? “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”—Colossians 3:13 (NLT)

Hurt by someone? “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,”--Matthew 5:44

Being tempted? “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”--1 Corinthians 10:13

Adversity? “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.--James 1:2-4

Of course, there are more than these scriptures for any of the above scenarios. I have just noted a few that have helped me.  I find that when my thoughts start to get off track, circling back to scripture is what helps me put my focus where it belongs….Jesus.

Dear Lord,

Forgive me when I let situations consume me. May Your word take root in my heart. I thank You for these scriptures that strengthen me when I get overwhelmed with any of these feelings. Help me to imprint Psalm 119:133 not just in my heart but also in my daily life. I lift up those reading this who may be struggling in any of these areas of their life. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
