I thought I knew what I was going to write about this week, but on Wednesday evening God orchestrated a beautiful moment for me that I wanted to share. I connected with someone through Instagram who is part of a crafting group. They chose, Knit, Pray, Share to use in their small group. 

When she reached out to me to let me know how they were using the book, I told her that if they lived near me, I would gladly come talk to them about it. They are located in Virginia. However, right now, they have been meeting via Zoom, so she invited me to join them to talk about the book. I was given a few dates. I randomly picked the 16th.  After the meeting I was going to my son and daughter-in-law’s house to spend the night so I could go over my grandson’s routine. They were going on their first overnight trip for a few days to celebrate their 5-year anniversary. 

Why do I share this? First, what a blessing to meet other sisters in Christ that get my heart behind Knit, Pray, Share as well as how they are using the book to bless others in their community with the gifts they are making. It was encouraging for me to listen to their stories and see what they have made along with being able to give them some new ideas on how to give away their handmade items.

Secondly, after I had talked and they all shared what they had made, they asked if I had any prayer requests for them. At first, I really couldn’t think of anything, but I felt the Holy Spirit impress on my heart to ask for prayers for watching my 4 ½ month old grandson. I said, actually I do. I am going to watch my baby grandson overnight for a few days and it has been awhile since I have cared for a baby like that. I just hope I can get some sleep and not be staring at the baby monitor to make sure he is breathing. He has acid reflux so there is a bit of routine for him. 

I honestly can’t believe I shared that with perfect strangers, but now I know why. One of the women prayed blessings over me. I can’t remember what all she prayed, but all I know is that she prayed for things I wouldn’t have thought to lift up to the Lord. I got teary eyed during her prayer. I still do talking and writing about it. It was such a spirit filled prayer that gave me an indescribable peace.

None of us can pray without divine help. We pray in God’s power not our own. You desire to do God’s will when you are praying in the spirit. This is exactly what that woman did when she prayed over me Wednesday evening. 

My time with my grandson was exactly what they prayed for me. He slept through the night both nights, napped, and drank all of his bottles. When I laid my head down at bedtime, I could hear their prayers. I kept thanking God for that special gift. I didn’t spend my night watching the monitor like I thought I would. My heart is full from being able to enjoy my time with that precious little baby.

We all have an opportunity to pray like this. It doesn’t have to be out loud as she did for me. If we look at the clerk at the store and they seem preoccupied, maybe the Holy Spirit brought it to our attention so we can lift them up in prayer? The policer officer on the side of the road? We can pray for God’s protection over them as we drive by them.

Praying for others takes the focus off us. Many times we feel helpless on what to do. Prayer is something we can always do. I encourage you this week, to listen to those promptings. Think about how our world would change if each of us lifted people up in prayer that we do not personally know. Look at the impact that one woman’s prayer had on someone she had met through a Zoom call?  We can do the same. 

Father God, 

I thank You for the prayer warriors You have put in my life. Forgive me when I let pride or embarrassment keeping me from sharing a prayer request with someone. You care about every little thing in my life. Nothing is too small of a request to ask of You. Open my eyes and ears to those You put in my pathway this week who need prayers or an encouraging word from me. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
