Back to the Basics

For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”—1 Peter 1:16 (NLT)

Lately I feel as if many of our world problems are due to the lack of God in people’s lives. If we were to get back to the basics of living as one nation under God, maybe our society would operate more smoothly? The morals and values that are in our Bible are no longer commonplace. You can’t have a little bit of Jesus. It’s not an option. You need all of Him.

It seems as if people are more passionate about who is in office than our Lord and Savior. Our government isn’t what feeds or souls, Jesus is. I know how hard it is for us to lift our eyes above the headlines. If I am not careful, rather than let the words in the Bible take root in my heart, I let the news into it instead. Negativity seems to be enforced in our culture and I can easily get sucked into it.

We are called to reflect Christ in our world, not blend it with everyone else. How do you seek God’s truth with the noise of the world? When I put God first, His love will automatically spill out of me and into others. My desire in our secular world is to share my faith with other who don’t know Him. One way I do this is when I give away one of my knit gifts to strangers.

When I do this, I have no idea if the person knows Jesus. Our World tells you if someone doesn’t think like you or have the same beliefs as you, that you cancel them. The Bible tells us how to love everyone despite our differences. Jesus didn’t cancel anyone. He loved ALL. He ministered to the Samaritan woman. He healed lepers. He did not let religious or political differences keep Him from loving or serving His Father. We are to do the same.

My challenge is for all of us to be praying for a revival in our world. For people to find Jesus. For Christians to not compromise God’s Word because of what the world says. God wants our faithfulness to Him, not bending to non-believing ways. We are to live set apart. We separate ourselves from sin, take up the cross and follow Jesus. This is not easy to do in our society today, but we honor God by staying true to His Word and ways.

Father God,

I pray for unbelieving hearts to be softened. I ask for their eyes and ears be open to hear the Good News. When my confidence is shaken by the opinion of others, help me to remember that You are with me and will not let me be shaken. I ask for conviction when I let world thinking cloud my beliefs. Despite differences, I thank You for Your love that can flow out of me to others. I ask for strength to stay true to Your Word even when it may not be popular. Use me as a vessel to shine Your light into someone’s day this week. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen

March Verse

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”—Matthew 5:16
