Serving Others

“But be sure to fear the LORD and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.”—1 Samuel 12:24 (NLT)

When we are helping others, we are serving God. This isn’t what the world we live in promotes. The Bible teaches us to have a servant heart. God places us where we can make the greatest impact for His kingdom. God is with us in our cars, cafes, homes, shopping….wherever we go.

My service for God has changed with the different seasons in my life. When my children were younger, I volunteered at the schools and with youth church activities. Now, I volunteer in a variety of different ways. Whether I am organizing a neighborhood gathering, serving meals at a senior center, leading a baby hat ministry or a greeter at church, God is able to use me in this chapter of my life.

When I give of my time, I am not thinking about how this will benefit me but how I can be a light in our dark world. If I find myself grumbling, then I shouldn’t be doing it. You may be in a season where you aren’t sure where God is calling you. If you haven’t found an area to serve in or outside of the church, overflowing with the fruits of the Spirit wherever you go is a ministry too. Our world needs more of Galatians 5:22-23; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. As we walk in faith each in fellowship with God, He provides bit-by-bit what He wants us to do.

God guides me to where He needs me. He will do the same with you. The past few months, I am thankful for the multiple opportunities He has given me to give away my Knit, Pray, Share gifts. I can only pray that when I do this, it has a ripple effect. Many times people question my motives. My motivator is putting the love of Christ in their day. We all have the opportunity to be a conduit of kindness and let others know that they matter. What can you do this week to shine the light of Jesus in someone’s day?

Father God,
Guide me to use my talent, time and energy to serve someone. I trust You to work through me this week. Forgive me when my behavior is not rooted in love. Thank You that You have chosen me to be a part of Your master plan. I know that when I do my small part, You do the big part in saving those that don’t know You. Thank You for the gifts You have given me to share the love of Jesus in my community. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.

April Verse

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.”—Psalm 113:3
