Only Believe

Since I am traveling today, I reached out to one of my sister’s in Christ whose words have been such a blessing to me. I asked if she would write this week’s post. She graciously accepted. Thank You, Susan!

A little bit about Susan Burritt: She was born in Rochester, New York. She moved to Los Angeles to become a famous movie star! When that didn't happen, she made use of her Masters in Education. She has taught and motivated youth at a private learning center in Los Angeles, and at charter schools throughout the Los Angeles area. Susan wrote SOS GOD! to inspire children to talk to God about everything because she firmly believes that the most powerful solution to problems is knowing what the Bible says, andreceiving God's help through prayer.

While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher. But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.”—Luke 8:49-50 (NKJV)

Jesus can do anything. Jesus raised three people from the dead: Jairus’s daughter, the widow of Nain’s son, and Lazarus. Not to mention that He died on a cross and He rose again from the dead in order to pay for our sins, and to give us a new, born again life, where we learn to see things from God’s perspective, and to trust what the scriptures say about everything

But here’s my daily battle: will I choose God's Perspective, or mine? Unfortunately, mine comes so naturally to me, and it feels so real that I often choose my perspective rather than God’s. Mine sounds something like this: "You're not good enough. You don’t have the strength. You’ll fail at this. People will laugh at you. You won’t represent God well. You just can’t do it!"

The Bible is the antidote to my wrong perspective, instead of my negativity it says:

I was created in God’s image: “. . .in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” --Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)

I am God’s workmanship: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

“I can do whatever God says I can do: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”-- Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)

The same Power that raised Christ from the dead lives in me:
”Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”--1 Corinthians 3:16 (NKJV)

OK, so if all these things are true, why do I feel so fearful? Why do I feel like a mouse!? Well, probably because I often believe my feelings over what the Bible says. Plus, I remember the times I’ve failed, so I’m fearful of trying again. Not to mention that what God says to do looks impossible! (But what’s impossible for me, is completely possible for His Holy Spirit who can empower me to do “all things”.)

Unfortunately, I berate myself when I try and fail! Which isn’t helpful. So now I’m doing my best to remember that it takes time to see things from God’s perspective. I need to be gentle with myself when I fail, and to keep praying for God to empower me to see myself, life, and others from His viewpoint.

When I choose God's Perspective, I feel peaceful, joyful, and able. When I choose my perspective (which I often do!) I feel anxious, sad, and lacking. To counteract my wrong thoughts and feelings, I must say what the Bible says about me, and then pray for help to do whatever God tells me, even if I have to do it with shaky knees and a mouse-like profile! Only Believe what Jesus and the Bible says and don’t listen to the fears and lies of the enemy.

Father,
Thank You for sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven. Poppi, if anyone reading this prayer hasn’t asked Jesus to be their Savior and Lord, I pray that You show them how much You love them. May they ask You to forgive them of their sins, proclaim that Jesus paid for all their sins and rose again from the dead. May they ask Jesus to be their Savior and Lord. And may Your Holy Spirit empower all of us to cast down every lie we believe so we can fulfill Your Plans for our lives. In the mighty name of my Lord Jesus I pray. Amen.
