What is Your Calling?

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”—1 Peter 4:10-11

God uniquely created each and every one of us. No one can do exactly what you can do. 1 Peter 4:10 says, each of us has a gift, not a select few. God doesn’t want us to blend in or we will never find our call. I will admit, when I was a new in my faith, I was hesitant to be bold in my faith for fear of what others might think. Now, I am more worried about someone’s salvation than being politically correct.

I can’t save the world, but I do have a responsibility to hold down my corner of it by sharing the love of Jesus that God puts in my pathway. I should be stewarding my gifts He has given me. One way to determine what your abilities are is by examining what people tend to ask you to do. For me, it is making some kind of knit gift for someone. At this stage in my life, baby hats and blankets are the most requested items. It a good way to use my time as well. My ability to knit has kind of been a road map for how God has been able to use me to accomplish His will for my life. Giving my handmade items to people I don’t know has been a way for me to share the love of Jesus in a nonthreatening way.

I can’t pray for God to lead me but not take the steps when He does. God isn’t going to give us a vision if we aren’t willing to take the small steps to accomplish it. God whispered to me for MONTHS to write some kind of book targeting Christian knitters. It took a preacher’s words to give me the push to take the bigger steps. I needed to hear, If God has called you to do something and you don’t do it, He is going to find someone else. God couldn’t steer me in the right direction if my gear was stuck in park. I had to shift into drive mode and get moving.

There is a world around us that needs to experience God’s grace. I am doing it through Knit, Pray, Share. It is humbling to be a part of an online weekly devotion on a YouTube channel, Kelli’s Crochet Adventures; Crafty Reflections - Knit & Crochet Bible Study LIVE DiscussionShe will be using my book for her next session starting on May 19th.. Feel free to subscribe to her channel and join us each Thursday 12:00 pm CDT😊.

Is my call to one day to do this with my own YouTube Channel? I don’t know. What I do know, is that right now, I don’t feel this is where I feel God is currently leading me. I have peace about it. I choose to embrace where I am with another sister in Christ who also have a love for Jesus , knitting/crocheting and encouraging others with similar gifts to make a difference in God’s kingdom.

How are you using what talents God has given you to be a blessing in our world? If you are on social media, you have a circle of influence. No matter the size of your following, you have an opportunity to help someone find Jesus from something you might post. I may never know on this side of heaven if a gift I have given away or what I have written or spoke made a difference. That is okay. I am not doing this for earthly accolades. I am doing it because it is what Jesus commands from His disciples….love God, love others (Matthew 22:37-40).

Can you make a decision today to step out in faith despite any fears of failure? I am glad God didn’t give me the full picture of my knitting ministry. It probably would have scared me. I am really good at second guessing myself. I start listening to the lies of the enemy and can easily talk myself out of doing something that God is telling me to do. Lord, am I supposed to give this gift to her? Obviously, God impressed it on my heart to do it, but I questioned it and did nothing. Thankfully, each one of us gets a fresh start each day to pray we don’t miss a God given opportunity to share the love of Jesus with someone He puts in our pathway.

 Father God,

Forgive me when I don’t fully surrender to You. I know you won’t ask me to do something without equipping me with words and actions that will honor You. Touch me so I can reach others through what I knit, write or speak. I ask for you to remove any spirit of fear or indecision in where You are clearly leading me. For those that are not sure of where You are calling them, open their eyes to the gifts You have given them. Reveal to them where You want to use them. Use me to make a difference in Your Kingdom. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen

May Verse

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.”—Psalm 113:3
