Many of us do our best to be “green” by recycling and try to minimize our carbon footprint. This got me thinking, what kind of eternal footprint am I leaving? I know our world seems like a crazy place right now. However, scripture tells us that even though this world may pass away, those in Christ will live forever. Knowing this, my goal each day needs to be to live a life doing what I can do to love like Jesus. This is the life He desires for me. God treats me with love and kindness and expects the same from me toward others.

Even if I am home all-day cleaning and doing wash, I can do it with a joyful spirit. I am able use this time to pray for others or fuel my soul with Christian music or podcasts. I know many who are unable to get out due to health reasons, yet they still find ways to be productive in God’s kingdom.

Caring for children/grandchildren is another opportunity some may have to pour into the younger generation. We are serving Jesus when we do this. When we set our goals to be ones that serve eternal heavenly purposes and not temporary ones, we are choosing a path that lasts. Eternal work is knowing that you may not ever see the fruits of what you do.

Whatever stage of life we are in is a gift for us to embrace. We must be willing to invest our time and talents to make an eternal impact. I’ll be honest, sometimes it is hard for me to keep my weekly commitment for the baby hat ministry. However, it is important for believers to make ourselves available for God’s will in our lives. It isn’t always convenient serving God. We might have to make some sacrifices.

I dedicate 2 hours one morning a week to my knitting group. Really, that isn’t that much of my time. Not to mention the blessings I receive from it. God has brought so many special ladies in my life through the group. I am humbled each week as I see the number of hats that have been made with love and prayers.

There may be times you are tempted to not show up to volunteer for an event. You think they won’t miss me. They have enough volunteers. One person not going isn’t going to matter. However, you will never know what blessings God had for you if you listen to those lies. I am thankful I didn’t listen to the lies when I had doubts about starting the baby hat ministry. What or where has God laid on your heart to serve? Are you able to spare a few hours each week or a few times a month to volunteer in some capacity?

 Father God,

Forgive me when I don’t surrender Your will in my life. Lead me to ways to serve that will eternally impact Your Kingdom. Let my works for You overflow with devotion and worship. Thank You for being able to use each and every one of Your children to share Jesus’ love with everyone we encounter. I lift those up to You who are struggling to find a place to best serve You. Open doors for them to be used by You. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen
