“He said to them, "Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people.”—Mark 16:15 (GNT)

Mark 16:15 is the last thing Jesus told His disciples to do. It is a command not a suggestion. These words from Jesus were not limited to His twelve disciples. They apply to us as well. Those who follow Christ should go out into the world and tell others what God has done, not what we have done. We are to proclaim the love of Jesus to our unbelieving world.

Because of technology and all the social media at our fingertips, this is much easier for us. We are no longer limited to our physical geographic location. There are opportunities for us to reach those in different corners of the world. In fact, just this week, someone from Japan commented on my YouTube Channel. This would have never been possible for me 20 years ago. Whatever we post or upload can point others to Jesus.

Evangelism was what Jesus asked and still asks of His followers. I know I have said this before, but I mean it. What I am doing with my knitting, praying, and sharing my handmade gifts isn’t something I do for any accolades. I do it for Jesus. It is one small way I can love others as Jesus calls me to do.

I am human so there are times I can’t help but question if my words or actions made a difference after I give a gift to someone. Even though my good deeds may go unnoticed by man, Kingdom work is always noticed by my Heavenly Father. We continue to do what is right when no one else notices or is around to witness it.

What we do in the name of Jesus lasts. Our eternal inheritance should outweigh any worldly acknowledgements. Colossians 3:23-24 is a good reminder for me. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Many times, what we do to serve in the name of Jesus is invisible. Nobody sees when you fulfill an Amazon wish list for a homeless shelter or a teacher in need of classroom supplies. Again, our motivation isn’t for human recognition but because that is God’s will for us. It isn’t all about me, but all about Him. Whatever good we do comes from God and is for God. How or where can you bless someone or some place this week?

Father God,

Forgive me when I get discouraged from lack of recognition from man. I know You see my good deeds done in the name of Jesus and that is what matters the most. You know my heart and will lift me up in due time.  I pray for those who don’t know about the hope Jesus can give them. I ask for opportunities to share my faith stories for those who are lost and searching. Help me to be a walking Gospel in my daily activities. Whether I am at the grocery store or posting on social media. I ask for boldness and courage to speak Your truth. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

October Verse

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”—Psalm 28:7
