I Give Thanks For...

“Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.”—Pslam 95:2 (NLT)

I can’t go the month of November and not write about being thankful. What better time than this week as some of us may celebrate Thanksgiving with family or friends. Which are two things that I am very grateful for…..my family and my friends.

As I am typing this and looking out at some knitting projects that I am trying to wrap up for a delivery this week, I am especially thankful for the friendships formed and comradery of my Knit, Pray, Crochet group.

This week a few of us will be delivering hats/ear warmers and scarves to an organization that helps the homeless in Fort Worth Texas called, When We Love.  The group has been working on them throughout the year. As our group has grown the number of items has been increasing.

Our first year we made a little over 150 items. Last November we were able to bless them with 211 gifts. This year we will be dropping off 250 handmade items! Because we have more people, we might even be able to make them another 50 hats/scarves by the middle of January.

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.”—1 Corinthians 12:12 (NLT) This verse reminds us; just like our body has many parts to make us whole, it is the same with the body of Christ.

Each person in our group contributes in their own unique way. Yes, some may have contributed more items than others, but there are other gifts that each person possesses which has enabled us to achieve what we have this year. We come together seeking fellowship. We motivate, encourage, and pray for each other. When we gather in His name, He shows up.

God has been faithful with providing sporadic donations this year as well. In fact, last week, after seeing a photo I posted on Facebook of the 255 children’s hats that were delivered to a low-income school, someone reached out to me asking if she could donate yarn to us.

What was so special about it was she had inherited some yarn from her recently deceased sister-in-law. She knew how much it would have meant to her to donate the yarn to an organization such as ours. It was a way for her to honor her sister-in-law’s memory as well as bless our group. God is so good. He can bring beauty out of someone’s sadness.  That yarn will be used to weave prayers into knit/crochet items.

As some of us make preparations this week to break bread with family/friends, let us remember to give God thanks for His Son, Jesus and the gift of eternal life given to us through Him.

Father God,

Forgive me when I miss Your everyday blessings in my life.  This holiday season, fill my heart with one of gratitude that will spill over to the people in my life and community. I thank You for a full heart that comes from serving others in the name of Jesus. I give You praise for all who have enabled me to accomplish this, especially all the hands that helped create so many the handmade items to donate this year. Let the love of Jesus flow through my words and actions this week. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen
