Seeking the Kingdom First
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”—Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
I am doing a Bible study through my church called, “Freedom.” I had shared with the group something I had been struggling to release to God, and once I did how freeing it was. I was getting so caught up with my mom’s care, it was interfering with God’s purpose for me. Finally surrendering it to God, helped me to refocus.
After our small group, on my way out to the car, one of the ladies said to me, “I feel like I need to give you these words, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” I thanked her but didn’t think much of it. Until……
The next morning the scripture on YouVersion was Matthew 6:33. As I read those words, tears filled my eyes because I knew God had prophetically given her that scripture to speak over me. I screen shot the verse from my app and sent it to her via text. We ended up talking for an hour about it. She is on fire for the Lord and right now I am in a season, where I need someone with a spark like hers to reignite my passion.
This scripture is telling us that if we first seek the Kingdom of God that Holy Spirit will come upon us. It lives inside of us. That is how God supplies us with everything we need. Not just that, The Holy Spirit is the loving personal presence that comes to live in followers of Christ. It empowers us to carry out His mission to the world of loving others. Because Christ is in us, He is present with us. How can I not overflow with thankfulness for this free gift?
We have an inward heart change when the Holy Spirit is working in us. It is what nudges us to do good and serve others. However, just because we have the Holy Spirit living and working in us, we don’t sit around passively and expect things to happen. We must seek God in prayer for guidance and then take action to where He is leading us.
When I am distracted from God I can’t act on His wisdom. He gives me the power and strength for what He is calling me to do right now. I know what I need to do but often question if I have the strength to do it.
Pursuing the things of God as a priority is not what the world teaches us. Seeking God should be the first place we go not our last resort. I don’t know about you, but I know I am guilty of going to the Google search bar before I go to my Father.
We have divine moments when we invest in God’s people. We seek His Kingdom first when we do things that are a priority for God. It should be our life as a disciple of Christ. As we live this way pursuing God, we receive supernatural power from the Holy Spirit.By submitting to His will, I am empowered to help build His Kingdom
Father God,
Forgive me when I search the internet before I go to You for help. I ask for divine moments to invest in Your children this week. Thank You for the power of the Holy Spirit working in my life. Give me guidance and discernment. Work in and through me in all that I do to grow Your Kingdom. I lift those up to You who need to surrender what is keeping them from experiencing Your peace and presence. I pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
July Verse
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”—Matthew 6:33
I have added Matthew 6:33 to my morning routine to say before I get out of bed each morning. Lord, help me to seek Your Kingdom and Your righteousness today. It is also my phone screen saver for the month of July too.
