Focused Heart

I know that I will live to see the LORD's goodness in this present life.”—Psalm 27:13 (GNT)

When you look for the goodness in your day, there is hope. I have had to be more intentional in this area of my life. Yesterday my mom was on the struggle bus, and I was losing focus. After numerous phone calls from her while trying to write this blog post, I had to literally stop and make a list of all my blessings.

This helped me to recenter my heart. I was letting the enemy steal my peace. I can’t write without a clear mind. Especially if I am thinking about things that are out of my control. The enemy is good at interrupting dedicated God time. If he can get into our heads, it will take our focus off our Lord and Savior.

As I make it a habit to thank God for the little things in my day, I become more appreciative of my life. Prayer is what anchors my faith. It is a spiritual compass that points us back to our Heavenly Father. Praise is a form of prayer that turns my eyes and heart upward. My list of thanksgivings opened my eyes to all the things God had done just that morning. I really need to get in the habit of writing them down more often. Many of you may already do this. I have in different seasons of my life, so I think this week would be a good time for me to implement it again.

No matter what trouble I may face, I always have God’s love and faithfulness to which I give thanks. I am loved. A promise and truth for me to hang tight too. Setbacks with my mother are going to happen. It is part of the disease with Alzheimer’s. Her getting sick last week did cause some regression. In the past, I would let it steal my peace. Despite so many daily phone calls, my heart no longer races when I hear her ring tone. Only Jesus can give me that kind of peace. I have learned to screen her calls and have full confidence her facility will call me if needed. That has not been easy for me. It has been a process. Just like my mom, I have setbacks too, but with a Jesus focused heart, I am able to trust God in these moments.

Father God.

Help me to release to You what is on my mind and heart. Forgive me when I don’t apprecate the beauty in the small everyday moments of my life. Remind me each night of all the ways You have provided for me. Thank You for not letting the enemy steal my peace during chaotic moments. I lift those up to You who are struggling to find goodness in their day. Open their eyes to see evidence all around them of Your love and power. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
