Darkness Will Not Overcome

“The Scriptures say, "God commanded light to shine in the dark." Now God is shining in our hearts to let you know that his glory is seen in Jesus Christ.”—2 Corinthians 4:6 (CEV)

God can take the enemy’s efforts to destroy His people to bless His people. I have been reading about this in my Old Testament Bible plan. God is in control. He has a purpose for what is happening in our world. He can use evil for His good. I read about it over and over in my Bible readings. He did it then and He still does it now.

Things were bad in the Old Testament. It’s not easy reading. God’s people were unfaithful and sinned. Civil injustices and slavery were rampant. God allowed His people to suffer these hard times to draw them back to Him. Could this be what He is doing in our world now? Is He trying to get our attention to put Christ back into our culture? God will one day bring restoration.

God’s people will go through difficulty at the end of times. However, in the end, His faithful will be risen to an everlasting life with Him in His final Kingdom. “During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever.”—Daniel 2:44

One day God will bring all of His flock back together. We press in, hold on and look up.  We put our hope in Christ alone. Days will grow darker. It was seen last week in the opening ceremonies at the Olympics in Paris. The Last Supper was blatantly being mocked.

However, God can use this to draw people to Him. Maybe, those who don’t know what the Last Supper was, will look it up and God could speak to them through it. God can speak His truth into those who oppose Him and soften the hardest of hearts.

Paul is telling us in 2 Corinthians 4:6 that the light of the Gospel is what penetrates the darkness of unbelief in Jesus. We are called to digest the Word of God and share our knowledge with others so that they too can have eternal life.

When I question what is happening in our world, I have to remind myself; we are all preparing for the second coming of Christ. There is going to be disorder. Despite the rebellion in our world, God continues to work out His plans to fulfill His purpose. It is going to be harder and harder to keep our focus on heaven. However, as believers, we are called to share the light of Jesus. The best way to do this is to stay connected to our power source…our Lord and Savior. His light in us illuminates the darkness.

There will come a day we will all have to give an account for what we did here on earth. Christ is coming back. While we are waiting, we stand firm in our faith not bowing to the culture and continue to reach the lost and broken

Father God,

Help me to fix my eyes on You and not what is happening in our world. No matter how bad things appear, I hang on to the hope that in the end there is victory in Jesus. I ask for courage and boldness to witness to lost souls who don’t know You. Use every Christ follower to brighten our troubled world. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

August Verse

"The God who said, "Out of darkness the light shall shine!" is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts, to bring us the knowledge of God's glory shining in the face of Christ.”—2 Corinthians 4:6
