“For many are invited, but few are chosen.”—Matthew 22:14

As I shared last week, I have started a Bible study on the Book of Revelation. As I read about the Parable of the Banquet in Matthew 22 spoken by Jesus, I couldn’t’ help but think about the end of times when those who choose to not respond to God’s call to walk in His ways will face His judgment.

Verse 13 of the parable says: “while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 22:13 ESV) Jesus also says something similar in Matthew 13:49-50:  So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Again, future prophecy isn’t easy reading, but it prepares us for what lies ahead. God has armed us with the Bible so that we aren’t surprised when our world seems as if it is getting darker and darker. Do I still pray for a revival and the next generation to rise up? Of course, I do. God’s plan for us is to help reach and restore our broken world before it is too late.

I don’t know about you but reading scriptures such as these in Matthew 22 give me a sense of urgency to reach the lost. As Christ followers, we can securely rest in His promise; “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” –1 Peter 2:9

We are a chosen people who are called to bring light into the darkness. When we know the Messenger and His Message, we don’t remain silent. With us, He can channel His blessings to the world. He wants our help to spread His love. He knows how much we will be blessed when we do this.

God wants to work in and through all of us to bless others. None of us are an afterthought. God has a plan for each of His children to be used to share the Gospel. I write about this often because it is so heavy on my heart for others to be willing and obedient to reach those who don’t know Christ.

Jesus’ invitation to follow Him is extended to all who truly have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. We keep the faith and do the work God has given each of us to do….share the Good News of Jesus.

Father God,

I pray for power and courage to be a witness for You. Let Your love flow out of me into the lives of others to brighten their day. Let a generation rise up to stand up for Your Truth. Give them boldness to share the Gospel with others in a gentle and loving manner. Thank You for choosing me to be one of Your disciples. Continue to guide me to who and where I can minister to someone this week. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
