Right Relationships
“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,”—Titus 2:11-12
We are instructed to turn away from ungodly desires and earthly wisdom. The grace of God and salvation is offered to ALL people, not a select few. We are to turn away from godless living by living different than the world.
If you are a parent, you set rules for your children because you love them. God does the same for us. We follow His Word to be wise, live right and be devoted to Him.
There are so many voices around us. We must choose wisely who we go to for counsel. Ungodly influences can lead us to wrong decisions and away from where God is leading us. I should be seeking God first, then counsel from friends who I know will speak God’s truth into me.
Who we align ourselves with the most are the voices we hear. If we aren’t careful, we can be lead astray. God’s voice is the one I need to listen to the most. I won’t be deceived when I stay grounded in His Word.
I don’t know if you have ever watched the TV show about hoarders, but sometimes when I channel surf, I will stop to watch it. Part of the reason is that I just can’t believe anyone can really live like that. How can they not be bothered by the mess that surrounds them or the stench of things rotting? The only explanation must be that they have gotten so used to the smell, they are immune to it.
Really, it is no different than someone fooling themselves when they choose a relationship that they know is going to lead them away from God. You can try and convince yourself that God put you in their life so that YOU can make a difference, but the reality could be that maybe they were put in your life as a test to see the choices you will make when faced with temptations? When you are around someone enough, their bad habits will rub off on you and pretty soon, those things don’t see so bad anymore.
When the devil puts temptation in your pathway, If you call on God for the strength to resist it, He will answer. As we lean into His strength, He will provide us with what we need to obey Him. For every temptation, we have an escape hatch….calling on Jesus.
If God has removed a friendship or relationship from your life, it could be because He is protecting you. Rather than be upset about this, look up to the One that knows what is best for you. As you heal from the hurt, you will be able to look back and see God’s purpose.
Father God,
I pray that You lead me to right relationships that will bring me closer to You. I ask for You to give me favor with people You want involved in my life. Give me strength to not allow friendships in my life that cause me to compromise my morals and values. I thank You for providing brothers and sisters in Christ to hold me accountable. I lift those up to You, who are struggling with breaking away from unhealthy friendships/relationships that are drawing them away from You. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
