Lift Up Your Eyes

“Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.”—Psalm 119:18

While sitting in the Kwik Lube this week waiting to get my car inspected, I was struck by the small waiting area. There were 7-8 of us sitting in close proximity to each other. Of course, I use my waiting time as an opportunity to knit. As I was knitting and looking around me, all but one person had their heads down and were on their phones.

Usually when I am in this situation, there is at least one person that will ask me what I am making, but not this time. It was quite unsettling. It’s not that I was upset that someone didn’t talk to me. It made me sad that we live in such a silent, disconnected society.

One of the reasons I love being a part of the knitting community is because our phones are put away. We laugh, knit, crochet and share life together. This is something that is starting to become extinct. We are substituting human interaction with our phones. It’s no wonder why stress, depression and anxiety are sky rocketing. We aren’t taking the time to form deep, intimate relationships with other people.

This past Saturday was World Wide Knit in Public Day. One of the ladies from my knitting group, who I also consider a close friend, met me at this event.Ten years ago, we were brought together through a church knitting group that I was leading. I can’t imagine my life without her in it. I don’t think she realizes how much she means to me. Because we both share the common thread of enjoying how to knit, our friendship was formed.

How many people feel like they don’t have time to learn something new like knitting or crochet? What would happen if you tried to enrich your life by learning a craft where you can show love and kindness to others by sharing what you hand make for them? I am passionate about Knit, Pray, Share because when I give one of my handmade gifts to someone to let them know they made a difference in my day, I am rewarded more than any post that I may read on social media.

Dear Lord,

I ask that You continue to open my eyes to see the wonderful truths of Your instruction. Continue to lead me to others to share items that I make to let them know they matter in Your Kingdom. I thank You for all of the special relationships that you have put in my life, especially those that help me to keep my eyes off of my phone and lift them up to You. I pray for anyone reading this that may not have close intimate friendships to be led to others that can share life with them. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.

Continue to memorize“Search the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him ”—1 Chronicles 16:11.
