“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.”—Hebrews 13:16 (NLT)
When you look up the definition for the word, “touch,” most of them refer to the physical aspect of it. It is probably what most of us think when we hear the word. However, one of the definitions I found on dictionary.com was; to be a matter of importance to; make a difference to; affect:
While we can make a difference in someone’s day by giving them a hug or pat on the back, there are other ways we can also touch their life. Maybe you are reading this it and it has “touched” your heart?
Someone that subscribes to my blog let me know that I had inspired a ministry for her. Actually it wasn’t me that stirred something in her but the Holy Spirit. After reading one of my posts asking what your gifts are, she realized that her brownies that she bakes from scratch could be a ministry for her. While I knit, pray and share what I make, She bakes, prays and asks God to lead her to a recipient of her brownies.
Whether it is a friend, family, church member or stranger that she hears is going through a trial, she either hand delivers or mails her special brownies to others to add a little sweetness to their day. God has opened her eyes to broken and hurting people who are in need of some extra love and kindness. She may not get recognized on social media for how she is blessing others, but God sees and knows her heart and that is all that matters.
I never know for sure if what I am writing is what someone needs to hear. All I know is that God guides my hands and heart on what to share. Not only was it encouraging to receive that email in my inbox this past week, but I was also struck with awe. “Wow!” Look how awesome our God is! He was able to speak through me to prick someone’s heart to be a difference maker in her corner of the world! I can’t take credit for that. God nudged her and she was obedient to the call.
God has given you an individual purpose in life. How can you combine your personality and talents to fulfill His purpose for you this week? Where can you reach out to someone through words of kindness, prayer or serving others? Maybe you also have a special recipe that you can bring to someone that is homebound or depressed?
Is your gift pretty handwriting or calligraphy? If so, could you make a hand written note to put in the mail to them to let them know you are thinking about him/her? The written word is powerful. It can really lift someone up when they are down.
Lord,
I thank You that Your kingdom can be glorified through a batch of brownies. Open my eyes to the talents You have given me that can bless others. Give me wisdom and discernment on what my gifts are and how to use them. Lead me to someone that is broken and hurting that needs to know that You see them, love them and they matter. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things.
