May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”—Psalm 19:14 (NLT)
Last year I wrote a post before Christmas called Stinkin’ Thinkin’. I was convicted on how I was going to decorate my heart before I put up decorations for 2020. I am glad I did because it was my reminder on how to view the holidays through a different perspective. Rather than look at it as a chore, I choose to have a full heart and appreciate the process. Part of that was scaling back so that I could enjoy my time doing it.
As I straightened the tree branches. I prayed that God be able to use me to bring the light of Jesus to those around me. While putting the garland on the staircase, I thanked God for the natural beauty that surrounds me every day….the rising sun, sunset, blue skies, leaves falling from the trees, the birds chirping….
As I look at each hung stocking, I am reminded to pray for each person. Wrapping presents will give me another opportunity to thank God for the full life I have. I was thankful to have my daughter home to help because next year she will be in another state. I continue to give thanks that I have the freedom to celebrate Christian holidays without fear of being persecuted and pray for those that don’t have the same luxury.
Having an attitude of joy and gratitude in the process was refreshing. My trunk full of hand knit gifts is dwindling. The past few weeks, I have shocked essential workers with hats, scarves, and coffee cup cozies. God has opened the doors during this busy season to easily give a gift to someone without it being a distraction or holding up any lines.
Last week when I gave a hat to a clerk, it was impressed on my heart to tell her, I prayed as I made this hat for God to lead me to the right person to bless with it and He led me to You. I appreciate your joyful attitude and the job you are doing. You matter and make a difference. I have no idea if she is a believer or not, but I could tell she was touched by the kind gesture. I have to believe it had a ripple effect to those around her the remainder of her shift. I encourage you to reach out to someone this week to bless with kind words or actions.
I chose Psalm 19:14 as my memory verse this month so that daily I will be praying that the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be pleasing to God in all I do. The CEV Bible Version is, Let my words and my thoughts be pleasing to you, LORD, because you are my mighty rock and my protector. He is my rock and protector. That alone should be enough to strive for my words and thoughts to be God honoring.
Dear Lord,
Forgive me when my attitudes and actions don’t reflect Your character. Help me to focus on what matters most in Your kingdom. Loving You and loving others. Use me to point others to You. Lead me to someone this week that I can encourage to let them know they matter and God loves them. Let my words and thoughts be pleasing in Your sight, O, Lord, my rock and Redeemer. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
