Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”—Philippians 2:4 (NLT)
Where am I investing my time is a fairly easy question for me to answer since I have been spending a big chunk of my time writing and knitting. Along with that, there has been a lot of prayer to go along with it….hence the name Knit, Pray, Share! Last week’s post by Nicole Haschke was encouraging for me to see how others can impact their community when the focus is turned upward and not inward.
A few weeks ago while at prayer yoga, I heard a song called Closer to Your Heart While listening to this song, I saw Knit, Pray, Share written in cursive. I was overwhelmed with how God is using something I love to do to draw me closer to Him.
The scripture that day in my journal had a paraphrase of 2 Peter 1:4 that said, God gave us His wonderful and powerful promises, so that as a result we will share in His divine nature. I put a star by that and wrote, Your promises tell me that when I share Your love with others, I will receive blessings of Your love, grace, mercy and faithfulness. You are with me. Thank You that You hold me by the right hand and guide my hands on what to write each week.
Not only am I truly humbled for the opportunity that God gave me to be a part of the Stitches West knitting convention last weekend, but also how He can use me through writing, knitting and praying to make a difference in His kingdom. The only thing I did to deserve this was that I stepped out in faith and started devoting time to do something that God laid on my heart.
Where are you investing your energy? Is it something that you can share with others to make their life/day a little better? It doesn’t have to be a craft. If you have the time, are you able to volunteer or mentor at one of your local schools? Can you help with Meals on Wheels or an elderly person in your neighborhood or church? Did something or someone come to mind when you read this?
You don’t have to commit to a weekly activity. Start with whatever you are comfortable with doing. Remember that God doesn’t care how you share the love of Jesus, He just wants you to do it! When you earnestly seek God on how and where He can use you, He will open doors for you.
Dear Lord,
I thank You that You are able to use my passions to make a difference in Your kingdom. I ask that You reveal to others what talents they have so they can share the love of Jesus in their corner of the world. I thank You that You continue to draw each and every one of us closer to Your heart. Help me to live out Philippians 2:4 and care about others as much as I care about myself. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
