Bible Reading
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”—Isaiah 40:8
This is my second year to read through the entire Bible. The first year I did a plan called the Bible Recap It is one where you read the Bible in chronological order. I went through the YouVersion Bible app to sign up for it.
For 2021 , I found another a different one to follow on YouVersion. I read from both the Old and New Testament each day. However, for 2022, I am going to do the Bible Recap again. I learned so much from it and I prefer reading the books chronologically. I will be the first to admit that many of the books in the Bible are hard to process. Having a study Bible to go along with this plan really helped me with some of those more difficult passages as well as the corresponding podcast that gave the history behind it.
Using the YouVersion app allows me to either read or click on the audio version. After reading/listening to scripture, I go to the Bible Recap podcast that goes along with the that day’s lesson. It is around 8 minutes. With the reading and the podcast it only takes about 15 minutes of my day. I try to do it in the morning, but some days it happens later in my day.
Speaking of the YouVersion Bible app, it was launched by Life Church a little over 13 years ago. It is a free app that allows users to read the Bible in over 1700 different languages. As of November, they had 500 MILLION installs! On the app, there is a daily verse with a short video clip along with a plethora of reading plans available to you. With apps such as this, there is no reason we can’t commit to spending time each day in God’s Word.
Mainstream media doesn’t cover this kind of news, but isn’t it encouraging to know that the Bible is being read all over the world in so many different languages? Tony Evans spoke at our church last year. He said, “we are either living in a reset or the end of times. Let’s hope it’s a reset.” Hearing about how many downloads as well as YouVersion goals was some needed uplifting information for me that I wanted to share with you. Despite what we see in our world, God’s Word is alive and active!
Tapping into scripture in our daily lives gives us newfound wisdom, strength and direction. The Holy Spirit uses the Bible to reveal ways God is working in every area of our life. Relying on a weekly sermon for our beliefs isn’t going to be what grounds us. Daily time with scripture is what leads, instructs and convicts us.
What are your plans for 2022 for spending time in God’s Word? I know that it isn’t easy to keep up with a daily Bible reading plan. There were days I got behind and I was doing good to use the audio Bible to go along with the podcast, but I didn’t let that discourage me. Eventually I would find a day where I would catch-up with my plan. There is definitely a sense of accomplishment when on December 31st, you realize you read the Bible cover-to-cover.
If you haven’t ever committed to reading the Bible in a year or some kind of daily Bible reading plan, would you consider adopting one for 2022?
Father God,
Forgive me when I let worldly things take precedence over spending time in Your Word. Thank You for Your Living Word that speaks and breathes life into each of us individually. I ask for continued guidance and insight to strengthen my knowledge of who You are as I share it with others around me. For those considering a daily Bible plan, I ask for revelation and direction on which one will help them learn more about who You are and deepen their spiritual walk. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
December Memory Verse
Putting last month’s memory verse, Mark 16:15 as my screen saver, did help me to memorize it, so I plan on doing that again.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”—Psalm 119:105
