“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.—Hebrews 10:24-25(ESV)
Hebrews 10:24 is my memory verse for this month, but if you go on and read verse 25, it addresses how important it is to be in community with other believers. These relationships are what remind and encourage me to stay on the right path. As members of the body of Christ we help each other by working together. We are united to other as believers.
We are able to encourage and strengthen each other through our love and prayers. That is a gift that I don’t take for granted. We need the influence of other Christians in our life to strengthen us and hold us accountable. With that being said, if you are not comfortable meeting in person or in a group setting, you do have technology at your fingertips to reach out to others. Whether it is online or in person we can find hope, courage and strength when we are in community with other believers. Are you a part of a group such as this?
In March I wrote about Faith Building Friendships. These relationships not only keep me accountable for my actions but they have also challenged me to do more in my community. The baby hat ministry that I have been a part of since the end of January has made and donated nearly 1300 hats! Because of this, we are able to branch out into other ministries, one of which we will be making pocket prayer cloths to pass out to people in our area as well as hats for the homeless in the fall. God has been so faithful in His provisions.
Meeting together each week not only encourages one another but also motivates us to want to do other acts of love in our area. Following Jesus isn’t only about going to church or Bible study. What we do outside the church matters. Do people meet us and see Jesus’ light radiating through us? God has wired us to love one another. How are you living out Hebrews 10:24? “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works (NLT)”. In what ways are you motivating others to share the love of Jesus through their words and actions?
Dear Lord,
Thank You for providing me with groups of believers that encourage me to share Your love in my community. I give You thanks for all of the people you have put in my life that help me stay anchored to Christ. Forgive me when I drift from Your ways or ignore You leading me to other ministry opportunities. I give You thanks for all of the women you have put in my life over the years that have brought me closer to You. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
July Memory Verse:
Memorizing Hebrews 10:24 is a reminder for me to be thinking of ways I can encourage others in my small groups.
