“Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things”—Matthew 6:33 (GNT)
Matthew 6:33 reminds me of my response when my husband asks me when he is going to get a return on his investment with my writing and knitting. My response is always the same, You can’t put a price tag on sharing the love of Jesus.
Of course, I want my book to sell, but I want my legacy to be the impact I had on other people for God’s kingdom not on book sales or how many books I write. Don’t get me wrong, book sales and writing more books is something I desire, but not something I obsess over. When we build our lives on the Lord, His Word and our faith we have the opportunity to create a legacy that stands for generations to come.
My obedience can have more of an impact than I will ever see. Of all of the gifts that I have given away over the past 3 years, I have to believe that at least one of them drew someone closer to Jesus. As I have shared in the past, I may never see the fruit from the seeds I am planting when I give someone a gift, but God does. I keep pressing forward, knowing as I pray, God is going to lead me to the right people.
Just because I have been obedient with something God has clearly called me to do, doesn’t mean it will succeed either. He asks for me to obey Him and He will bless me in other ways. I cannot tell you the number of people I have met or have been put in my pathway because of Knit, Pray, Share. Both men and women’s paths I would have never crossed had I not stepped out in faith to pursue writing some sort of Christ centered knitting book.
As I read about Moses this last week in my Bible reading, it was a reminder of how God can and will use the unlikely to accomplish His divine plans. God can do miraculous things when we step forward in faith. If I believed the lies of the enemy, I wouldn’t be writing, knitting or leading a baby hat ministry. God has placed each one of us exactly where we are to serve Him. Whether it is a greeter at church or cooking for nonprofits, we all have a place where we can volunteer our time….even online.
When I obey God, I always get His best for me. Knit, Pray, Share started out as Threads with Red. The publisher wanted a title that had to do with knitting. I was pretty attached to Threads with Red but when I heard the new title, I liked it even better! God’s plans for us are better than we could ever imagine.
God uses our small steps in faith. It could be as simple as sending a text or email to an unbelieving friend letting them know you are praying for them. Or even posting a scripture that speaks to you on your social media. Whatever it is, listen to that inner voice and do what God is asking you to do today.
Father God,
Help me to delight in the work I am doing, knowing it pleases You when I am living a life to gloify You. Forgive me when I measure my success by world standards. I thank You for strategically placing me where you want me to accomplish Your purposes. For those that are questioning where You are leading them, I ask for clarity and confirmation for them to take that next step to walk through a door You are opening for them. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen.
February Verse
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”—Matthew 5:16
