“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”—Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
While everyone may not have the desire to write a book or blog post, we can all use our words to share what Jesus has done for us. It can be done through a text, email, written note or verbally. For me, I have felt led to write a weekly inspiration.
However, there are days where I start to question if this is really what God wants me to do? It happened to me last Sunday as I was finalizing my post. I thought, Am I supposed to write something every week? Does it really matter? Then it starts to snowball. I start to worry about what I wrote. Get behind me Satan! The only way to stop all of those thoughts was to pray scripture over my anxious thinking. These are a few that I used: Matthew 6:34, 1 Peter 5:7, Phillipians 4:6, and John 14:27.
Satan wants us to question if what we are doing is God’s will. Writing, knitting, and sharing my faith is a passion God has put in my heart. I know He didn’t give me these gifts to ignore them. Discouragement, doubt, and fear are some of the tools the enemy will use to try and derail us. He is a liar and wants to steal our peace. Believing these lies will only keep us from being who God created us to be.
The next morning, I woke up refreshed and reminded of God’s love, mercy, and goodness through a morning devotion that I read. The title? A Talent for Words. It was talking about how God can use us and our words to share Christ’s love. If that wasn’t an affirmation to keep doing what I am doing I don’t know what is.
In my insecurities I must to lean into God. He is all I need to overcome them. Through my fear, God was able to give me security in Him. He heard my prayers. I don’t find anywhere in scripture where God says we must be unafraid to complete His assignments. However, His Word does tell us that despite our fears, He will guide, protect, comfort, and give us the needed strength. God is patient with us. In His loving kindness, He encourages us in our struggles.
The thing is, I am not the only one who can communicate with my words what Jesus has done for me. You can too. Will it be received? Maybe not, but all you can do is listen to those “nudges” and let God do the rest. I don’t know about you, but I want to do whatever I can to make sure others know Jesus so they can spend eternity with Him. God calls us to use our gifts and stories to lead others to Him. Where can you say, “Yes” to God this week so that others may know Him?
Father God,
Forgive me when I let anxious thoughts take my focus off where You are clearly leading me or doubt the gifts You have given me. Thank You for Your perfect love that casts out fear and doubt. I ask for unwavering faith. I know You are with me. Help me to remember Your words, in Philippians 2:13. You are working in me giving me the desire and power to do what pleases You. Guide, lead and give me the words to say to share the love and hope of Jesus with those I encounter this week, especially those who are searching to fill their empty souls. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen
