“Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.—Psalm 95:2 (NLT)
Psalm 95:2 is verse to focus on for the month of November. You can’t ever give God too much praise and worship. A few weeks ago, I went to bed knowing I was coming down with something. When I woke up, I told my husband, I think I could stay in bed all day.
A couple hours later I finally got out of bed. I felt achy with a stuffy head and laid back down until nearly noon. When I went out to get the mail, I had a sweet note from a cousin I reconnected with a few years ago.
She had on it, Grate-Fall, Faith-Fall, Joy-Fall, Merci-Fall, as well as encouraging words for me. A reminder to be thankful this fall for my faith, as well as God’s grace, mercy and joy I have each day I am given. Slipped in with the card was an inspirational note that said, Rest is possible with Jesus. Always. I love God’s perfect timing of her letter.
For a few weeks, I had been going non-stop. God knew the only way I was going to rest my body was for me to get a head cold. It kept me home for 3 days. I didn’t want to risk sharing what I had with my mom or anyone else for that matter.
In order to live gratefully, we have to practice it. Did I like not feeling well? Of course not, but I am thankful for my immune booster that lessened the duration of my cold as well as the 3 days of rest I had while I was recovering. I didn’t even knit or workout during that time, so I truly did rest. My body needed it and I knew it.
I know it might not always be easy to find something in your day to thank God for. You might have to search for it, but there are nuggets of God’s blessings throughout your day. Even when things look bad in our world, we can find something to in which we can praise God. From thanking God for a cold where I felt bad for 3 days instead of 7 to that front parking spot on that rainy day, I give God praise.
Having a thankful mindset isn’t denying your reality and life’s problems. Thanking God is a way for us to show Him our love. We can focus on what is good and God’s truth for us. Giving Him praise for the promises He has kept and the love He has shown and still shows me each day. He has never left my side. He is holding me by the right hand. His presence is with me wherever I go.
Father God,
Please forgive me when I fail to thank You for what You have done for me each day. Help me to find joy in the middle of troubles and trials. Thank You for Your promises of never leaving or forsaking me. May I remember Psalm 95:2 this week; to come into Your presence with thanksgiving, and sing songs of praise to You no matter what difficulties I may face. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
