“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.”—Colossians 2:8 (NLT)
The enemy isn’t democrat or republican. We have a spiritual battle going on in our world. There is something called, "uncoventional Christianity” creeping into politics. Next month during the mid-term, there are some key elections is some states where Christians should make sure they are going to the polls.
One of those is in Texas. There is an individual running for the US Senate who claims to be a devout Christian. Being a student of the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary is on his resume.
From this many take his interpretation of scripture as true. Among some of his spoken falsehoods are claiming God is nonbinary. He has also reinterpreted God’s Word to go along with his agenda. He is what I would call an Unconventional Christian.
Despite this, he is ahead in the polls with many Christians supporting him. I can see why. He says the right things to appeal to us not to mention his opposition hasn’t made the best choices.
This upcoming election is a time for Christians all over to stand firm in their faith and not vote democrat or republican but for the candidate whose policies and values most align with scripture. We may have to dig deep to do this.
It is up to us to do our due diligence on each candidate’s platform. We can’t listen to a few snippets on social media to determine how we will vote. I don’t only look at conservative media. I listen to both sides so I can make an informed choice.
I know many Christians may decide not to vote if they don’t like either candidate running. For me that isn’t an option. If Christians don’t vote, then we allow the godless to speak for us.
I can honestly tell you that our choices in this Texas Senate race are not ideal. I need to remind myself that I am not voting on character but the person’s platform. There is no perfect candidate, but if we let the Bible’s truths along with prayer guide us in our decision, we will fill in the right box.
This is why it is so important to put on the “belt of Truth.” We need to know what is true in the Bible and what is being twisted and taken out of context. The enemy will bend the truth and distort the facts just enough to make them believable.
Reality is being redefined. Our discernment of what is true begins with scripture not the headlines or a politician. Standing up for God’s truth isn’t easy. We guard our hearts against this deception (it’s inevitable) by shaping our minds through scripture, not social media or podcasts. With God’s Word as or foundation, we won’t be confused by what the world is pushing.
Father God,
Empower me to be unafraid to proclaim Your truth to those twisting Your Word. I ask for God-fearing leaders in our cities, states, country and around the world to be voted into office this upcoming election. Open our eyes to those who are twisting scripture to make it sound true. May we listen to the words in Colossians 2:8 and not be fooled by humans teachings that come from the powers of this world and not from Jesus Christ. I pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
