“I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations”—Psalm 89:1 (ESV)
For this last week of February, I am continuing to focus on my verse for the month; Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Psalm 89:1 is how we can do this. Praising God for His steadfast love, we will make known His faithfulness to all generations.
God is filled with joy when we reflect His glory. For those of us who are mothers, the best place for us to start is in our homes. I do not take it for granted how fortunate I was to be a stay-at-home mother. It wasn’t easy. I struggled with having an education and not having a career using it.
However, the most valuable gift for me as a mother has been seeing both of my children raising children in a Christ centered home. The greatest contribution we can make as a parent is not what we do but who we raise. Some of us may be helping raise grandchildren, nieces, nephews or helping to care /mentor other children who may not have the influence from Christian parents.
This is where we can fill in the gaps. If you decided to participate in Lent this year and chose to volunteer more, being a mentor to a child is one way you can share the love of Jesus in their life. In loving others, we invest in eternity not the here and now.
Our society doesn’t teach us to be more concerned for others than ourselves. Yes, we need to take care of our needs, but meeting the needs of those that are less fortunate should also be on our radar. This includes those who are spiritually poor.
Leaving a legacy continues with the next generation and the next. I raised children in the church, they are raising their children in the church, and I have to believe, if Jesus hasn’t come back, my grandchildren will be doing the same.
If you don’t have children, you are still able to leave your imprint in our world for future generations. I think of my friend, Susan. While I have never met her in person, she is one of my sisters in Christ who is leaving her legacy through her children’s book SOS God.
Through this book she is living out Psalm 89:1 She even sings of God’s steadfast love in some of her YouTube videos reading some excerpts from her book. Her love for the Lord and desire to share it with the younger generation is evident in her writing.
We all have different gifts that God will use to make an impact in His kingdom. Where can you make an eternal impact for future generations in your corner of the world?
Father God,
Thank You for giving me the tools to raise children in a Christian home with strong morals and values. Give parents the strength and guidance to persevere in a world that doesn’t honor biblical standards. I lift up those who found faith later in life and didn’t raise their children as they would raise them now that they have Jesus. Help them to show their family how a changed heart can change their life too. For those who have an opportunity to be the light in a child’s life who doesn’t have Christian influence, carve out the time for them to minister to these children. May we all live out Psalm 89:1 this week by making known Your steadfast love and faithfulness. I pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
