“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”—Jeremiah 29:13 (NLT)
When you truly seek God’s purpose for your life, He will open your eyes to where He can use you the most. As I was giving my gifts away to people, I realized that God could use my love for Him, knitting and writing to achieve His plan for me.
I knew I couldn’t sit by and be idle and wish a book into existence. I had to take action. Faith means, even when you are unsure you say, this doesn’t make sense, but I am going to do it anyway. However, as I have shared, there were days (and still are) that I struggle with stepping out in faith due to fear and the unknown.
I am a planner so not knowing what lies ahead is REALLY the hardest part of writing for me. For those of you who have ever been my co-pilot, (for the record, I have NO SENSE of direction) despite having a GPS talk to me, I also like my passenger to tell me ahead of time my next turn, so I know which lane I need to be in…doesn’t matter if that turn isn’t for 4-5 miles, I want to know all of the details. Obviously, another thing that prevents me from stepping out in faith is a control issue.
When something is God inspired as my book was, it was easier for me to relinquish control because God kept opening doors for me. God doesn’t just want an obedient heart from us, He also wants our affection and a relationship with us. That is why it is so important to spend time with Him daily. Many of us have been forced to decrease our activity and stay at home more than normal. Has this allowed you to carve out more quiet time with the Lord?
I know God won’t call or lead me to do something without equipping me. He has recently put another possible writing opportunity in my path. It is definitely outside of my comfort zone. I have no idea how or if it will turn out, but I know if God is in it, it will all fall in place. Spending more alone time with God has deepened my faith and trust in Him. Right now, it is up to me if I am going to take the leap of faith knowing His arms are spread wide open to catch me, lead me and provide the needed instruction.
Who would have ever thought that I would be able to take a hobby and turn it into a purpose? Not me, that’s for sure, but God can do anything with our little bit. Despite the fear that surrounds many in our world today, can you think of some way to bless someone?
People still go to their mailbox. Can you send a sweet note or gift as a ray of sunshine to someone who is choosing to stay home due to health risks? If you aren’t going out either, are you able to pick up the phone to call to check on someone that you know is home alone?
We are God’s vessel. God can and will use you to impact the people around you. We may not always get it right, but we need to at least try. God has a plan for each and every one of us. It is up to us to be a part of it.
Lord,
Thank You that you can use an average woman like me to lead others to Jesus. Help me to walk in faith and obedience and let the love of Christ be reflected through me. Open my eyes and heart to see You in all I do this week. Align my heart with Yours. Forgive me when I miss an opportunity because of my lack of trust and need for control. Open my eyes to what I can do this week to be a blessing to someone else. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray these things. Amen
