“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”—John 8:12
Reading Jesus’ promise in John 8:12 is still true for us today. He is the Light of this world. His sacrifice on the cross gave us the gift of His Spirit….the light of life. It keeps us from stumbling in the darkness.
Looking back on my life as a stay-at-home mom to the empty nester I am now, I can see how God has been able to use me. Through volunteering at school activities to my current knitting ministry, God has been able to shine through the everyday moments.
Everything we do matters to God. When I was a full-time mom, I questioned if I was doing enough. I now know, I was doing exactly what God wanted me to do. I see the fruits of it. Both of my children married a Christian spouse (something I prayed for since they were toddlers) as well as being plugged into a church and small group.
God had a designed plan for each of us before we were born. He intentionally wove us together. We didn’t choose when we would be born or what family we would be born into. God did. He has us exactly where He wants us. No part of us is a mistake. This is a truth for us to remember. We were created for this exact time to love and serve God, to know Him better and make Him known to others.
This is why I write a weekly blog post, tape YouTube videos as well as knitting, praying and sharing my handmade gifts in the community. You don’t have to knit a gift to lift someone’s spirit.
Bringing a friend or neighbor dinner or a cup of coffee can open the door for you to minister to them in some way. Sending a quick text, to let someone know they are on your mind and asking if there is any way you can pray for them are all ways we can share the love of Jesus.
I know my obedience to my calling is not in vain. God will bring glory out of it. If I plant the seeds for only one person to be led to Jesus through a gift I give them, it is worth it. I trust God will provide fruit from my labor. We have to be okay with not being able to see what blossoms from what we plant.
Our spiritual life began when a seed of God’s Word was planted in our soul. This is what I am doing when I put a scripture on one of my gifts. I am planting the seed of God’s Word in the person who reads it that may not know Jesus.
I have shared how there have been times I have listened to the lies of the enemy whispering that my actions aren’t making an impact. When I get in that mindset, I need to redirect my focus to the eternal things I am doing.
Because I don’t know the day I will breathe my last breath, I keep knitting, praying and sharing the love of Jesus with whoever God impresses on my heart. With the cold Texas weather the past few weeks, I have been able to bless a few people with items that may not have only warmed their head or neck but also their heart. Thank You, Jesus, for giving me these opportunities.
Father God,
Forgive me when I let the whispers of the enemy hinder Your Kingdom work You have led me to do. I don’t want to miss opportunities to share the Gospel. As much as I would love to see what blossoms from the seeds I have planted, help me to remember that seed planting is just as important as the watering and growing. I lift those up to You who are getting discouraged not seeing results from what they are doing in the name of Jesus. I ask for You to speak to them through scripture, song or another person to lift their spirit. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”—John 8:12
