“For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.”—1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NLT)
We are not called to be passive believers. It is a call for action on our part. Christ’s resurrection is what unites Christians to live out the Great Commission of taking the message of Jesus to the ends of the earth. We share the hope there is life in Christ after death. The end of our life here on earth isn’t the end.
It does matter what we do with our one life we have been given. Our main purpose is to share Jesus’ message to our unbelieving world. Writing this weekly devotion and taping on YouTube are both part of my ministry. An unbeliever may “accidently” stumble upon this website in a Google search or on my YouTube channel. Reading my post or watching a video will either have them leave the website, play fast forward or plant the seeds.
It doesn’t matter. I am doing what God calls His disciples to do. As 1 Thessalonians 2:4 tells us, we have been entrusted with the Good News. Our motives aren’t for self-gain but for a genuine desire to help save lost souls. It is the purpose for every believer of every generation.
You don’t have to have to know how to write a weekly devotion, knit or have a YouTube channel to do this. In fact, I have a good friend who loves making homemade sourdough bread to bless others. Her breadmaking is like my knitting. She prays over what she makes and bakes.
This week I was the recipient of one of her loaves of bread. It was so good, I asked her for the starter so I could try and make my own. Oh my, after reading all the steps to do it, I was overwhelmed.
As much as I wanted to be able to do what she is doing, I know my limits. I also know, God has called me to knit. She told me, Lisa, don’t worry about it. My bread making is like your knitting. I do it because I enjoy it. I am sure how I felt when I read the bread recipe instructions is how many feel when I try and get them to learn how to knit or crochet. It’s not for everyone.
Sharing our faith is what we are called to do. It is a big order, but we don’t do it alone. God uses all of us together to share the Gospel. He uses every day people like you and me to share the love of Jesus. So whether it is making a blanket, bread, brownies or a bouquet of flowers, God can use unique ways for you to share the love of Jesus to those around you.
With Easter around the corner, I encourage you to pray for boldness to invite a friend or neighbor to church with you. This is another way you can be an active witness for Christ. The gift of eternal life is available to all who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
May we live with an urgency to get the message out to an unbelieving world. Remember, your small act of obedience is all part of God’s plan for others to find the love and hope we have in Jesus.
Father God,
Remove any timidness that keeps me from sharing the Gospel. Open my eyes to people in my life who don’t know You. I ask for opportunities as well as boldness to share Jesus and His hope with them. Help me to be faithful and not miss the work you have for me. For those who are unsure on how You can use them, reveal to them ways they can share their faith through their words or actions. I pray these things in the might name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
