God's Hand

“You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted.”—Psalm 89:13 (NASB)

First and foremost, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the prayers being lifted up for our family with my mother’s move to a new assisted living. They were felt! Not only were all of the prayers felt, but so was God’s mighty hand.

As you have followed me on this journey, you know when I finally gave the situation over to God, it all started to fall in place. God met me in my every day needs including removing her phone at a time when it was needed the most.

Not just that, the Friday prior to her move, I ran into a college friend at a funeral. I was a little sister in a fraternity. One of the guys reached out to me to let me know about the passing of one of the fraternity brothers. Since the service was near where I lived, I decided to attend.

Prior to going in, I ran into one of the guys I am friends with on Facebook who I hadn’t seen since I was in my 20’s.  He said, “I thought of you the other day. We have a new resident moving into the community that has your last name. I thought, what are the odds that she might be related?” I asked what community and where it was.

Imagine my shock, to hear it was the place where my mom was moving. He is the maintenance manager and his sister the executive director. I couldn’t believe it. Knowing his character from college as well as being raised in a strong Christian home, I don’t see him working for a company he didn’t believe in. It was another confirmation that my mom was moving to where she belonged.

With the move itself, only God could keep my mom preoccupied with no desire to go up to her apartment for 3 hours. We were able to get everything packed and loaded in the U-Haul in under 3 hours as well as the donations being picked up. She easily got into the car with me to go visit my brother without too many questions.

Yes, it was a roller coaster 3 ½ hour car ride but overall, thanks to medicine, it was rather peaceful. We had to spend Sunday night at the hotel because she couldn’t check into her new apartment until Monday. It too was challenging, but all the prayers were giving me the needed strength to endure.

I can now see how God not only has been beside me, but also how He went ahead of me. None of this would have happened so seamlessly (the move itself….my mom is another story) had I not let God be in charge. I had to relinquish control…not easy for this type A personality.

Trials in life have strengthened me as well as given me the eyes to see God’s hand in the difficult circumstances. While I still am involved with some of my mother’s care from a distance, it isn’t as consuming as it has been. From the caretakers to her new nurse practitioner, I know this is a better environment for her. Of course, her not having a phone has also made this transition easier for all of us as well.

Again, thank you for the prayers. There is so much power when we pray for each other.

Father God,

Help me to enjoy this new time of ease. Thank You for the much-needed reprieve. I give You praise for going before my mother and hand picking this facility, her caregivers and medical care. I ask for my mother to feel Your Mighty Hand in her life. Replace her angst with peace. I lift those up to You who are trying to control their situation. Reveal to them what they need to release to You so they can experience Your provisions in their circumstances. I pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
