Change is Inevitable

September 8, 2025 Lisa Hennessy

“Everything on earth has its own time and its own season.”—Ecclesiastes 3:1 (CEV)

Change can be a good thing that many resist. My mother is one of those people. When my father passed away in 2006, my middle brother and his wife offered for her to come live with them. She thanked them but told them didn’t want to move out of state.

Even though she doesn’t like change, she had no problem selling the house she shared with my dad for 40 years to downsize into a brand-new garden home. It was her routine and friends she wasn’t wanting to leave behind. I get it.

The reality is that even if she had gone to live with my brother and his family, at this stage of her Alzheimer’s they would have needed to move her to some kind of care facility due to her unpredictable behaviors.

When we are rooted in Christ, change, no matter where life takes us, is something we can see as an opportunity. You trust God is putting you where He needs you at that season in life. I am now at that place. I know God has a plan and purpose right where He has placed me at this moment in time.

While I love my home, neighborhood, and the fact that some of our best friends live next door to us, I have always known it isn’t our forever home. My husband is close to retirement, and we would like to move to a one-story home with less maintenance.

I have no idea where or when we will relocate, but I know God does. Due to my mom’s change of residence, we are no longer tied to living in the immediate area. I look forward to what God has in store for us. God’s hand was on the move to our current home, and I have no doubt He already knows where we will go from here.

Change is a part of life. It is up to us to embrace where God leads us and to make the best of it. Is God nudging you to do something new in your life? I know it can be scary, but He won’t call you to an area of ministry if He hasn’t given you the skills to be a part of it.

We don’t have to have degrees or experience to be a part of God’s plan in saving lost souls. God will use us wherever He places us. Our job is to stay rooted in Christ, so we are attentive to His promptings.

Father God,

Help me to adapt to changes in my life. May I embrace this new season I am in by looking for opportunities to be a light to lost souls. May I also make the most of wherever you place me. I know You see the bigger picture. Use this time to grow me closer to You. Open my eyes to all of the blessings of where You have me. Thank You for giving me peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to stay rooted and grounded in Your Word. I lift those up to You who are struggling with embracing this time in their life. Remove any blinders keeping them from experiencing joy. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

September Verse
“You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted.”—Psalm 89:13 (NASB)
