His Temple

“The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.”—Psalm 27:4 (NLT)

Week to week, I am not always sure about what I will write about. I pray before I sit down in front of my computer asking the Lord to direct my hands and heart. This month each week has seemed to build upon the next. I started off with importance of daily Bible readings. From there I wrote about how the enemy is going to do whatever he can to distract us from God’s teachings.

Last week, I talked about having a daily routine to draw near to God. This week, God impressed on my heart the importance of filling His Temple. This happens from staying in God’s Word through my everyday practice of reading my Bible.

I have always heard that the Bible says that your body is God’s temple. I interpreted that to mean I needed to take care of the body that God has given me. While this is true, Psalm 27:5 opened my eyes to another way to view the meaning of this.

When I read this scripture in the New Living Translation, I saw the word Temple was capitalized. I realized that my body is His Temple because I have the Holy Spirit living inside of me. We are His dwelling place. Jesus is our foundation. He had made His home within His people through the Holy Spirit.

I have the privilege every day to sit and meditate in His Temple. I can meditate on His Word whenever and wherever I want, not only on Sunday mornings or at a weekly Bible study. I know how hard it is in our crazy world to stay in constant communion with God. However, when I actively choose to seek God throughout my day, He is the anchor to any stress I may encounter.

As I meditate on scripture, God gives me insight and understanding. Spending time in scripture strengthens and blesses me. I love how God will speak to me in a different way through a verse I have ready many times.

Our conduct in our earthly bodies is a way for us to glorify God…or not. We have a choice on how we will represent Jesus through our words and actions. Through the Holy Spirit, Christ helps us walk in holiness and self-control. Our actions should come from an overflow of our heart to serve, just as Christ did.

Yes, our body is God’s Temple for us to nourish with His Word. My verse for this month has been, “I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me.”—Proverbs 8:17(NLT) Each week this month, I love how God has led me to write about something related to this scripture.

Father God,
Forgive me when my words and actions don’t glorify You. Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit living inside of me. Help me to walk in holiness and self-control. Enable me to understand scripture better so I can apply it to my life. Your Word tells me when I search for You, I will find You. You will nourish my soul with Your Word. May I live out Psalm 27:4; to live in Your House all the days of my life…meditating in Your Temple. I pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
