Called to Live in Peace

November 2, 2026 Lisa Hennessy

“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”—Colossians 3:15 (NLT)

I chose Colossians 3:15 to focus on this month for two reasons. First, because it is November. It is a good reminder to always be thankful. We have reason to give praise for the light of God’s presence shining on us.

Secondly, midterm election results will in this week. If who you vote for doesn’t win, as members of one body, we are called to live in peace. Some feel quite passionately about the candidate they feel is the best person for the office. If the person they think should win the race doesn’t, it isn’t a reason to cause dissention.

The results may trigger fear on how the results may affect our communities, country and families. Our peace and identity are found in Christ not a political candidate. I need to remind myself, whatever the outcome, God has allowed it. His purposed can’t be thwarted by an election.

When leaders mislead us, God can be trusted. He can use evil to accomplish His purposes. We read about some pretty corrupt leaders in both the Old and New Testament that God used to fulfill His plans. We know from reading the book of Revelation that things are going to get bad

In Texas, it isn’t looking good for the Conservative Party. When the final numbers are in tomorrow, November 3rd, we pause and remember Romans 8:28; “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Despite any nasty posts we may see on social media, we look for ways to extend peace in how we speak or respond to those who voted differently than us. I give thanks that I live in a country where I have the freedom to vote, pray, and share my faith.  Gratitude shifts my focus from what I cannot control to the One who is sovereign over every authority.

Father God,

Let Your peace rule in my heart this week. Guard me from any division or anxiety that can easily take root. Your Word tells us we are members of one body called to live in peace. No matter the results, I know You remain on Your throne and You are working all things for the good of those who love You. I pray these things in Your Precious Son’s name, Jesus. Amen.

November Verse
“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
