“For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”—Romans 10:13 (NLT)
If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, every year around the anniversary of my first husband, John’s death, I write about how I found I faith I didn’t know I ever had. It took a tragedy for God to get my attention.
I don’t ever want to forget how God got a hold of my heart and saved my lost soul. It gives me heart to continue His Kingdom work to minister to those who are broken and hurting, especially young widows. Even though I am nearly 60, I can still relate because I know what it feels like to have your life turned upside down.
Tomorrow will be thirty-one years that my life was so drastically changed in a matter of seconds. No one expects to be widowed at the age of 28 left as a pregnant single mom with a 2-year-old child. When I got married, I didn’t think the until death do you part” was going to come until our golden years.
However, we live in a broken, fallen, and imperfect world where bad things happen to good people. Once I found Jesus and the love and comfort only He could provide to soothe my aching heart, I have wanted to share this with others so they too can receive the same grace and mercy from our Heavenly Father.
God used people in my story to show me He was real. It isn’t complicated to share with someone who their Rescuer is. Everyone who calls for help will be saved. Our rescuer is Jesus. He offers salvation and new life. This is something I want to share. We make talking about this too complicated. It isn’t.
I don’t need to be able to able to answer every question someone may have or feel like need to fix someone’s life. I tell how Jesus rescued me and how my life changed when He did. This promise isn’t only for me but for them too. Nothing brings more fulfillment than sharing your testimony.
In Romans 10:13, Paul is telling the people in Rome that anyone can have a relationship with God. In this verse, we admit that we have a deep need we cannot solve on our own. It is trusting God hears us and responds. This is a promise for everyone.
Over the years prior to my salvation, I know it was the prayers of family, friends and strangers who interceded on my behalf for my lost and broken and soul. After John’s death God surrounded me with family, friends and a church family.
God was able to use the devastating death of my first husband to develop me into the person He created me to be for my own good and His glory. My suffering is what led me to God’s ultimate purpose in life; to love, live and serve like Jesus.
Father God.
Thank You for saving me when I called on You. You bring purpose out of pain. Only You can use a tragedy for Your glory. I ask for boldness to share my testimony. May I not be hesitant to proclaim the Good News of Jesus to those You put in my pathway. Continue to use me to love, live and serve like Your Precious Son, Jesus. I pray these things in His mighty name. Amen.
