God is Near

“Where can I go from your Spirit?Where can I flee from your presence?8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”—Psalm 139:7-8

Psalm 139:7-8 tells us that God is always with us wherever we go, we aren’t ever alone. What a comfort it was for me to read this particular scripture in my Wednesday morning devotion after my dentist appointment the prior day.

Over the years, I have had dentists monitoring some mercury teeth fillings that would one day need to be replaced as well as a crown from a root canal that I have had for over thirty years. The time has come for me to now get some of those fillings replaced as well as needing a dental implant where that root canal is. My husband will be retiring sometime in the fall, so I am now in a pinch to get as much of this work done while we still have dental insurance.

On Tuesday, I had 3 cavities replaced in my upper mouth. When the dentist gave me the lidocaine shots, I had this numbing sensation in my eye. Knowing I was going to have this done again in a few days for my tooth extraction, I started to have some anxiety over this. What if the dentist hit a nerve and the numbing doesn’t go away….It just started to snowball in my head from there.

Because God loves us so much, He will provide the right scripture for us at the exact time we need it. I was able to draw on Psalm 139:7 the rest of the day Wednesday as well as Thursday morning before my procedure. Having my tooth pulled was much more invasive than having my fillings replaced.

However, on Thursday, rather than fret over the needed multiple lidocaine shots I was about to receive, I felt God’s peace. The Holy Spirit within me is what strengthened me. It is greater than any fears running through my mind. Tranquility follows me when I give it to God.

The joy of God’s presence is available to us all day long.  It brings order to our thoughts which infuses peace into our entire day. God’s presence with us is an eternal blessing that is available to each and every one of us.

Father God,

Thank You for giving me Your presence wherever I go. When I think I am alone, You remind me You are with me. I give You thanks for comforting me through Your Word to give me a peace that surpasses all understanding. Only those filled with the Holy Spirit can experience this gift You give to Your children. We are each precious in Your eyes. I lift those up to You who are feeling fearful over circumstances which they have no control. Help them to trust that You are by there side and will never leave or forsake them. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

June Verse
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
